Hurricane Sandy Cleanup in Ocean City, NJ

Cleanup continues in Ocean City, New Jersey, in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Here a family deals with the aftermath of flooding at 12th Street and Simpson Avenue on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012. Margie Hendrix, 84, has lived in this home all her life, and says the flooding from Hurricane Sandy surpassed that from the storm of 1962. She receives help with the clean up from family members including daughter Leisa Hendrix Begley and her husband Michael Begley, of Bridgewater, NJ. In this video, the family speaks with Sarah Mausolf from Magnum Research Corporation about the process of cleaning up after Sandy.

Though not the hardest hit of the beach towns in New Jersey, Ocean City saw its share of flooding during Hurricane Sandy. Here Florida resident Bill Brehm talks about cleaning up the damage to his properties on Stenton Place. Hurricane Sandy washed sand into Brehm’s beach home, which is situated closest to the ocean on Stenton Place. The storm was also strong enough to sweep away his hot tub. In this video, Brehm speaks with Sarah Mausolf from Magnum Research Corp. about the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and the cleanup process, which continued on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012.

On the south end of the island here in Ocean City, New Jersey, Hurricane Sandy covered a parking lot with sand. Here workers tackle a rehabilitation project at the 59th Street beach along Central Avenue. In this video, Jeff and Candace Smith, from Indiana, who own a home on Asbury Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets, recall how this beach looked before Hurricane Sandy hit during an interview with Sarah Mausolf from Magnum Research Corporation. Dirk Eggink, lead engineer, talks about the project being conducted by R.E. Pierson of Pilesgrove, N.J., which was well underway on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012.
